Open Question: what is a good gift to give my boyfriend before he goes away for school?

my boyfriend of almost 8 months is moving a state away to start his freshman year of college at the university of minnesota twin cities. i'll still be here in wisconsin. neither of us are concerned about the move because everything is going great and we're like best friends. i want to give him something either creative or just plain cool so he'll always know that i care so much about him. however, i'm not always the best gift giver. this year for his 18th birthday i made him a tied fleece blanket with the minnesota gophers logo. it was pretty neat and i don't want this going away gift to be lame. any ideas would be much appreciated! thank you! :]...
